Wakefield Trinity and coach Daryl Powell punished by RFL over attempt to sign St Helens star

Wakefield Trinity and coach Daryl Powell have been fined over breaches of RFL rules.

The club were ordered to pay £15,000, with £13,000 of it suspended until the end of the 2028 season. Powell was hit by a £3,000 punishment, £1,000 suspended for a similar period. Both cases arise from Trinity’s attempt to sign St Helens back Harry Robertson, who is contracted with his current team until the end of 2028.

The governing body ruled Trinity approached a contracted player without permission from his club before the December 1 anti-tampering deadline. In June the governing body confirmed they were investigating a complaint made by St Helens against Trinity after Powell said his club had had an offer for Robertson rejected by the Merseyside outfit.

Powell was found by the RFL’s compliance department to have breached the sport’s Respect policy and an operation rule covering “conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game”. No further details have been given.
