It was 22-0 at the break and Wildcats ran in 11 tries in total, with stand-off Jacob Miller grabbing a hat-trick.

Miller had a fine game and Scott Moore, Max Jowitt and Anthony Tupou were also outstanding, but it was a magnificent team performance in attack and defence.

Wakefield scored four tries in the first half, Nick Scruton beginning the rampage after 11 minutes from Scott Moore’s pass.

Miller crossed twice either side of creating a touchdown for Tom Johnston and Liam Finn landed three conversions.

The game was effectively won by the break, but the question was whether Wakefield could maintain their first half pace?

The answer was an emphatic yes as they added seven more touchdown and never looked like conceding.

Finn and Miller crossed in the opening 12 minutes to end any prospect of a fightback and other tries went to Danny Kirmond, with a brace, Ben Jones-Bishop, Jowitt and Scruton, Finn finishing with nine conversions.

It was Wigan’s heaviest league defeat since a 70-0 loss at Leeds 11 years ago. Wigan were missing 10 senior players through injury.
