Hunslet: Team '˜hurting' despite big-score victory

It was Hunslet’s second successive win in Kingstone Press League One and Coyle said: “We’ve been working on our defence this year and our goal-line defence in particular.

“We defended in that area, for the majority of the game, really well, but there were a couple of lapses which we were disappointed with. We could have stopped both the tries they scored.

“I know it’s going to change massively over the course of the year, but if we hadn’t conceded a silly try from dummy-half we would only have conceded 10 points in two games – equal with Toronto as the best in the division.

“The players were disappointed when we told them that after the game and if that’s hurting them it is good for me to hear. It shows the pride they’ve got in what we are trying to do.”

Coyle felt the big win at Hemel was a step up from the previous week’s 10-6 success against Gloucestershire All Golds.

“We have been talking about improving our performance,” he said.

“That’s been the main focus to everything we do. It was the best we’ve performed and no surprise the scoreline reflected that improvement.”
