Dewsbury Rams coach Kelly proud despite Wolfpack defeat

RESULTS AREN'T going their way, but coach Neil Kelly is upbeat about Dewsbury Rams' recent performances.

The 23-12 loss to Betfred Championship leaders Toronto Wolfpack two days ago was Rams’ sixth successive defeat.

But Kelly insisted: “We are coming to the end of playing some tough sides and without having anything to show for it on the table, the players have performed pretty well.”

Kelly added: “We are pretty beaten up at the moment and going into the game with three hookers and two half-backs is not ideal, especially playing against Toronto with their squad.

“But the players gave a brilliant account of themselves and I am really proud of their efforts.

“It was a good effort, but we’ve got to put what we’ve learned into practice in the next few weeks.”

Kelly reckons his team will get back to winning ways if they continue defending the way they did against Toronto.

“Five times in the second half we held Toronto up over our own line,” he pointed out.

“We showed great commitment in those situations to hold them out.”

Rams – who are eighth in the table – came through with no major new injuries.

They are at home to Halifax on Sunday in a game rearranged from Easter Monday when it was postponed due to snow.
