Castleford Tigers: Fresh injury halts Roberts' comeback

A foot injury restricted Roberts to only five appearances last year, but he featured as a substitute in Tigers’ Betfred Super League round-one win over Leigh Centurions on February 10.

He was due to play against Warrington Wolves last Friday, but missed out after suffering a groin injury in training.

Coach Daryl Powell said: “It was a bit innocuous, how he did it.

“I am not sure how long he will be out for, but it is grade two so it will be a few weeks.

“It’s a difficult one. He is not getting much luck at the moment, things need to turn around for him.”

Powell said Tigers, who play host to Leeds Rhinos in two days’ time, came through last week’s 30-22 victory with no new injuries.

Former Rhinos hooker Paul McShane will be available for this week’s derby after missing the trip to HJ Stadium due to suspension.

The coach reckons there are areas his side will need to improve on against Rhinos, but he feels their attacking game is in good shape.

Tigers are top of the table after two rounds and one of only three unbeaten teams.

Powell said: “We conceded a couple of soft tries.

“They should not have been in shouting distance – we were too good for them once we got going.

“It took a while, but once we did get going we blew them off the park.

“We scored four tries in an eight- or nine-minute spell and I am not sure I have seen a better period of attacking rugby league.

“As a team we are growing in confidence all the time.”
