Former Castleford Tigers player Ryan McGoldrick's cheeky attempt to auction himself on eBay has failed after the website removed his listing.

The 35-year-old Australian, who lists Castleford, Hull FC and Salford among his former employers, found himself without a club when a team he signed for in New South Wales folded.

McGoldrick therefore decided to sell himself on eBay earlier this week under the listing “1981 Antique Rugby League Player Ryan McGoldrick”, stating the condition was used with “only surface scratches and rust”. The auction had attracted a highest bid of £215 by the time the website took it down on Wednesday.

“So @eBay_UK has stopped my auction because I’m selling body parts or remains..?? I’ll just find another way! :),” McGoldrick said on Twitter.

In response to one bidder, who wanted to bring him back to England and loan him out to a club, McGoldrick tweeted: “Just remember postage is at buyers expense ;)”.

McGoldrick spent seven years in England, making over 150 appearances, the bulk of which came with Castleford, after originally playing for NRL side Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

McGoldrick later amended the listing, advertising his playing boots for hire, saying: “Because the boots are quite old and a little smelly as a reward and probably for the safety of the winning bidder I will offer to wear them free of charge.”
