Amateur RL: City's derby foes can't be split after tense opener

EAST LEEDS and Hunslet Warriors began their National Conference Division One campaign with a hard-fought 20-20 draw, but Milford Marlins and Oulton Raiders recorded outstanding away wins.

Warriors scored four tries to three, but Declan Tomlinson had a 100 per cent success rate with the boot for Easts, including an equalising penalty late on.

Dave Nurse, James Forsell and Mark Greenwood were Easts’ try scorers.

For Warriors, Lee West, Caldon Bravo, Luke Day and Daryl Gaunt scored tries and Richard Wheelhouse booted two conversions.

Milford looked to be heading for a draw at Millom, but Tom Barnes’ second try of the game secured a 22-18 success.

Matthew Brockton, Tom Wilson and James Barker also crossed and Ryan Oxtoby kicked a penalty. Prop Eddie Wilson was Marlins’ man of the match.

Oulton made the short trip to Normanton Knights without six first-choice players, but returned with the points from an 18-12 victory.

Craig Savage, Lawrence Dibb and Andy Tillet were the try scorers and Danny Macintosh added three goals.

Oulton’s women were 34-12 victors at Thornhill.

Meanwhile, Thornhill Trojans’ second string beat Wibsey Warriors 48-22 in the Yorkshire Men’s League Forty-20 Cup. Sam Ratliffe scored a hat-trick of tries and three goals, Jordan Truelove also crossed three times, George Woodcock grabbed a try and goal and other scorers were Mark Hodgson, George Stott and Shane Davies.
