MOORTOWN ladies’ successful summer climbed to another peak as they took the YLCGA A team championship at Halifax West End.

Captain Sue Rogerson has overseen a year which has involved them winning the qualifier in the Division 2 scratch championship, the A team championship, the B team championship, as well as the Leeds District Evening League.

Thirsk & Northallerton were the top qualifiers out of the 112 clubs who entered the A team competition and received the trophy donated in 1997 by Huddersfield GC.

Unfortunately they met a formidable Moortown team in the semi-final and lost 4-3.

Lightcliffe were second qualifiers and faced Wath in a tight match that saw two matches go to the 21st hole before Wath emerged as winners.

The final between Moortown and Wath was similarly closely contested with most matches going to the 18th hole.

The last was called in on the 18th fairway when a previous match had been won to take Moortown over the winning line, 4-3.

All their rivals are already looking forward to next year and hoping to wrest the trophies from Moortown, but for now the ladies who play in pale blue are clearly in the pink.
