GOOD DAY FOR

Watford: In no way was this a vintage performance from the Premier League side, and a combination of horrible weather and competitive opponents prevented them from taking Leeds to the slaughter but they are in with a decent chance of doing something in the FA Cup this season and they’ll only care about their place in the quarter-finals. For Leeds, the season is done.

BAD DAY FOR

Scott Wootton: You almost feel like this sort of moment has been hanging around the corner, waiting to pounce on him. Steve Evans has persisted with him at right-back but Wootton always looks like he is playing out of position and it is hard not to feel some sympathy for him. The error was a bad one, no question, but for his sake as much as anyone else’s, the call must go out to Gaetano Berardi.

Wootton’s own goal: Leeds were having a lot of the game at that stage, just as they had in the first half, but at no point did they really look like scoring. Watford were struggling on that front too but Wootton’s mishit clearance put them in the ascendency and their defence wasn’t seriously troubled after that. Own goals don’t get an awful lot worse.

WHAT THEY SAID

Flores said: “We were better in the second half and took control with the ball and we had more attempts.”

Evans said: “It’s a particularly cruel way to go out of the FA Cup. We had the better passages of play and the better passing and moving. I genuinely thought it was a day where Watford were never going to score.”
