York City v Leeds United Women highlights: Abbie Brown strike earns point for Whites
and live on Freeview channel 276
It was the Minsterbelles who came out on top when the two teams met in the FA Women’s National League Cup last month – but with the Whites seeking an escape from the fourth tier, Wednesday evening’s game will have far greater significance.
Only one Division One North side will earn promotion to the Northern Premier come the end of the season, but it’s so far, so good for United. Since Rick Passmoor returned to manage Leeds this summer, his side have won five of their seven league games and are currently one point clear of second-placed Durham Cestria.

Honours even at the LNER
The Whites can’t have too many complaints about the result tonight, with a draw a fair reflection of the sides’ performances.
You could hardly believe it was goalless at half time, so when York went ahead it seemed as though the floodgates might finally be opening for a high-scoring contest.
Not so. Once Brown equalised the game fizzled a bit - but that didn’t stop Rick Passmoor belting instructions from his technical box right up to the final kick. Some lungs he’s got.
The Whites boss can’t be too disappointed with the outcome - it’s a marked improvement on the teams’ last encounter and, though Durham Cestria and Barnsley could both overtake United with their games in hand, it’s the points on the board which count.
SUB for York
Goalscorer Jess Holder looks dejected as she limps off. Abbey Frederickson takes up the task of bagging a last minute winner for the home side, whose fans are really begging for it.
Petering out
Lots of stopping and starting here at the LNER Community Stadium as players seize up with cramp. Leeds are running out of chances to claim derby bragging rights. Five minutes to go.
Cramping up
Another York City player down on the floor, having her legs stretched by the Minsterbelles ‘keeper. Tiredness is beginning to show - but there’s still ten minutes left for someone to grab a winner.
There’s a break in play as Jess Heald receives treatment. She’s getting a nice blast of deep freeze.
OFFSIDE
It looks too good to be true as Aaliyah Nolan is sent through on goal by Macy Ellis - and it is. The Leeds substitute is well offside. 75 minutes gone.
