Back in January 2018, Thomas Christiansen's side were beaten 2-1 at Newport County, who scored two goals inside the final 15 minutes to cancel out Gaetano Berardi’s ninth-minute opener. Frustrations were compounded when Samu Saiz was shown a red card in injury time.
And ahead of the Whites’ latest visit to a fourth division club, we’ve decided to look at the United starting XI from that third round shock, and find out what each player is up to now.

1. Andy Lonergan
Lonergan signed a shock one-year deal at Liverpool in 2019 as cove and went over 18 months without making a competitive appearance until his duck was broken after stepping in for Stoke City's Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Tottenham last month. The 37-year-old has recently been on the move again, joining West Brom this week. Photo: Stu Forster
2. Vurnon Anita
The Dutchman’s contract at Elland Road was terminated in September 2019. He briefly joined CSKA Sofia but soon returned to his native Netherlands, where he now plays for KC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie. Photo: Stu Forster
3. Conor Shaughnessy
Shaughnessy remains on the books at Leeds but his career in West Yorkshire is over. Previous loan spells at Hearts, Mansfield Town and Burton Albion have failed to inspire permanent deals, but that could all change in the January transfer window. Photo: Matthew Lewis
4. Gaetano Berardi
Berardi stuck around and played a key part in returning Leeds to the Premier League. A long-term knee injury at the back end of last season threatened to end his Elland Road career but the Whites extended his expiring contract by a further year. He is expected to return to the first-team fold in February. Photo: Stu Forster
5. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson
The once highly-rated Manchester United defender’s stock has fallen since his temporary Leeds move. After loan spells at Scunthorpe United and Tranmere Rovers, the 23-year-old now plays for Oldham Athletic in League Two. Photo: Stu Forster
6. Hadi Sacko
Sacko was deemed surplus to requirements by Marcelo Bielsa and subsequently left the club permanently last summer for Turkish outfit Denizlispor. That followed after loan spells at Las Palmas and Ankaragucu. Photo: Stu Forster
