Proud Charlie Cresswell outlines Leeds United wish after lifting first 'proper' trophy for Whites

Cresswell and the rest of United's under-23s were left signing in the rain at a wet Thorp Arch on Monday after completing a stunning Premier League Two Division Two season in style.

Mark Jackson's side approached the season finale at home to Burnley already assured of promotion as champions after a stellar campaign.

All that remained was for the young Whites to sign off in style as they also looked to complete the whole season going unbeaten at home.

By Monday afternoon it was mission accomplished and in some style as a brace of penalties from Sam Greenwood together with strikes from Cody Drameh, Niall Huggins and Crysencio Summerville gave Leeds a 5-2 victory.

Cresswell, 18, then stepped up to hoist aloft the trophy, after which the centre back saluted his team mates and coaches as well as outlining future ambition.

"I'm really proud and I'm really proud of the boys," said Cresswell.

"It's felt like a long season with the whole Covid thing but everyone has been really good this season.

"We have come in every day and worked really hard.

"I can't thank the staff enough and I can't thank the players enough.

"Everyone has put such an effort in to what we have come and produced at the end of the season and I am just so proud of everyone."

Reflecting on what it felt like to lift aloft the trophy, Cresswell said: "It's my first proper one that I've been properly involved in all season.

"It feels good and hopefully there's many more to come."
