Daniel Farke's Leeds United team news v Tottenham with key pair major doubts and Dominic Calvert-Lewin setback
Leeds United team news for Saturday’s last Premier League game before the international break at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
A key Leeds United pair are major doubts for Saturday’s visit of Tottenham, ahead of which striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also suffered a setback which Daniel Farke is cautiously optimistic of him overcoming.
Anton Stach (foot) and Noah Okafor (adductor) have been unable to take part in team training this week whilst a foot injury prevented Calvert-Lewin from training on Thursday but Farke is hopeful the no 9 will return in time for Tottenham’s visit.
Centre-back Joe Rodon, though, is now back available for selection having trained all week on his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Farke was without Okafor and longer term absentee Rodon for last weekend’s clash at Bournemouth for which Stach was only deemed fit enough to make the bench after struggles with a foot injury.
Okafor had experienced adductor issues on the back of the 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United which cast doubt about the winger featuring in the trip to Sunderland but Okafor made the bench at the Stadium of Light and was brought on midway through the second half.
Farke then said that both Okafor and also fellow injury doubt Calvert-Lewin had trained as normal ahead of last weekend’s trip to Bournemouth but Okafor felt his adductor in the last session before the game and failed to make the matchday squad.
Stach, meanwhile, was a doubt for the visit to Bournemouth due to ongoing problems with his foot but the German midfielder made the bench on the south coast and came on midway through the second half, just as he did at Sunderland having also been doubtful for the clash against the Black Cats.
With Stach only on the bench and Okafor missing, Harry Wilson and Dan James both came into the team at Bournemouth where Leeds fell to just a second league defeat of the season through a 2-0 loss.
Rodon, meanwhile, suffered a serious hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw at home to Brentford at the end of August and the defender was expected to be looking at eight to ten weeks out.
Farke then revealed ahead of last weekend’s trip to Bournemouth that Rodon had been part integrated back into team training but that he would now need session after session and that the game against the Cherries would come too soon.
Rodon was named in boss Craig Bellamy’s Wales squad for November’s Nations League games this week.
Providing his team news at Thursday’s pre-Tottenham press conference, Farke said: “Some mixed news during this week.
“Good news with Joe Rodon, he is back in full team training during this week.
“Of course he was out for quite a time but it is definitely good because he is an important player for us and back in training.
“In the offence we still are struggling a little bit. Noah Okafor obviously missed the last game due to some adductor problems.
“He was also not able to have one team training session during this week so far, just individual work for him. So, I can’t really say if he is available for the game. We have two more days anyhow but so far he has not joined us in team training.
“The same for Anton Stach with foot problems. Just individual rehab work was possible, so major doubts then both if they are available. With Anton and Noah we have to see.
“Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a little setback with his foot as well, was not able to train with us today but I would say I am carefully optimistic that he is back in training hopefully tomorrow and then he would also be available.”
