Leeds United target opens door to £27m summer move, Whites 'highly likely' to seal Marcelo Bielsa agreement

Leeds United slipped to a narrow defeat against Everton on Wednesday evening, despite a second-half fightback.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the Toffees into a two-goal lead at half-time before Raphinha’s goal threatened a comeback.

Whites head coach Marcelo Bielsa felt his side deserved at least a point, he said: “I think we did enough to draw the game and even then we could have gone on to win it.

"That's to say we had enough chances in the first and second half to draw the game.”

There has been a switch in focus towards Bielsa’s future over the last week or so, particularly in the Daily Mirror.

They reported last week that Andrea Radrizanni and co are “quietly confident” the Argentine will sign a new contract when discussions open at the end of the campaign.

Bielsa operates by signing one-year deals, something he has done since taking charge in June 2018, and likes the flexibility it gives both sides.

Now, in David Anderson’s latest column about Bielsa, he believes “it is highly likely” Bielsa will agree to a fourth year at Elland Road, which would be his longest spell at any club he’s managed.

Work is already underway in terms of the upcoming summer transfer window, with director of football Victor Orta in the process of drawing up a list of targets for Bielsa’s approval.

One of the positions believed to be top of Bielsa’s list is a playmaker amid constant speculation surrounding Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart forward Nicolas Gonzalez has opened the door to a summer move.

Leeds interest in González was “very serious” last summer, according to Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat, but a move never materialised.

However, Orta and co could have the opportunity to make another move, one year after the first, as per reports.

It was claimed by The Athletic last month that Tottenham and Juventus had held initial talks over Gonzalez, who is valued at around £27million.
