Your round-up of the latest Leeds United stories ahead of Saturday’s trip to West Brom.

Leeds United are back in action this weekend and face their first away-day of the season at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Daniel Farke’s side are only two games into the campaign but pressure is already mounting after two poor results and a transfer market nightmare. Wednesday’s Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of Middlesbrough sent those inside Elland Road home miserable, only to read news of Georginio Rutter’s pending move to Brighton on the way back after his £40million release clause was triggered.

Leeds now face a mammoth fortnight as recruitment chiefs look to fill major gaps in the squad, having lost arguably last season’s best three players in Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and now Rutter. The club have consistently suggested they have been well-prepared for such an eventuality but that preparation will now be seriously tested. With all that in mind, the YEP has rounded up some of the latest stories surrounding the club.

Matondo links

Leeds look to be stepping up their pursuit of wide reinforcements and reports have now linked them with Rangers man Rabbi Matondo. Football Insider reports that the Championship club are ‘making a move’ for Matondo, although the YEP understands he is not a player currently being looked at.

A replacement for Summerville is yet to be found and despite early interest in Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe, talk has gone relatively quiet on that front amid intensifying interest from Olympique de Marseille. They now look to have turned attention to Matondo, who registered five goals and three assists in 19 league games.

Rangers are keen to offload players after failing to qualify for the Champions League and so Matondo, who has two years left on his contract, could be allowed to move on in search of more regular football. While the 23-year-old has struggled for starts in Glasgow, he impressed previously on loan at Belgian club Cercle Brugge and is a fully-fledged Welsh international.

Manhoef price-tag

Former Leeds midfielder Carlton Palmer insists Stoke City’s reported demand of at least £10m for Million Manhoef, with Elland Road chiefs looking to do ‘real quick business’ after losing Summerville and Rutter. TEAMtalk linked the Whites with a move for Manhoef, 22, who registered four goals and one assists in 14 appearances after joining Stoke in February.

“Steven Schumacher does not want to lose the player and [it has been reported] they would be looking for £10m upwards and hoping that will be enough to put off Leeds,” Palmer told Football League World. "But I don't think money is going to be a problem now for Leeds with the money they have got in for Archie Gray, Summerville and now for Rutter.

“The £10 million will not scare off Leeds, who will need to move quickly to get these deals over the line. It's all very disruptive again for Farke as the season has just kicked off, he had this same problem last season and still managed to post 90 points on the table but they will be looking to do some real quick business."
