Nottingham Forest vs Leeds United: Score, James and Justin goals from Carabao Cup clash
Leeds United kick off their Carabao Cup campaign with another trip to the City Ground this evening.
Leeds United head to Nottingham Forest for the second time in four games tonight - this time in the Carabao Cup.
Daniel Farke’s side enjoyed a perfect start to their Premier League campaign at the City Ground on Saturday, their 1-0 win coming thanks to a late Anton Stach free-kick. The Whites only needed that moment to claim all three points following a steady defensive performance and clean sheet.
Leeds have known for a few weeks they’d be due back at Forest the following midweek, with an all-Premier League tie drawn out for the Carabao Cup. Both teams enter the competition at this second round, as happened last season - albeit Farke will hope for a much better showing.
His side lost on penalties to a Sheffield Wednesday outfit who were eventually relegated from the Championship last season, missing all three spot-kicks. Farke hasn’t made it beyond the second round of the Carabao Cup in three previous attempts as Leeds boss, losing twice at this point and once in the first round.
While Farke will want to progress this evening, his team selection will say a lot about where the Carabao Cup lies in Leeds’ season priorities. With just four days between games, it would be reasonable to expect the Whites boss to make a handful of changes, potentially while keeping key figures involved.
That could mean a potential debut for Nico Elvedi, whose £8.5million move from Borussia Monchengladbach was confirmed last week. The centre-back could join fellow summer arrivals James Trafford, Tarik Muharemovic and Harry Wilson in a new-look starting-XI.
There could also be an opportunity for some on the fringes of Farke’s side to get minutes, namely the likes of Daniel James or Willy Gnonto. A couple of youngsters might also eye senior exposure with Jayden Lienou and Alfie Cresswell among those staking a claim for Carabao Cup minutes.
Leeds’ Carabao Cup meeting at Forest is due to kick off at 8pm tonight. Stay tuned for team news, commentary and all the goals...
