Leeds United manager Daniel Farke may have an eye on more than just the Whites' promotion push this season as the 48-year-old's teenage son has recently become embroiled in a top-of-the-table clash of his own.

Farke's teenage son Luis Engelns recently broke into the SC Paderborn 07 first-team in 2. Bundesliga. The North Rhine-Westphalia club could go top of the table outright for the duration of Germany's winter break with victory over Karlsruher SC this weekend.

The 17-year-old midfielder has made nine senior appearances for Paderborn during the first half of this season, including eight consecutive league outings in recent weeks. It follows four goals and one assist in nine appearances for Paderborn's 'B' side, who compete in the Regionalliga West - Germany's fourth professional tier.

Speaking to the YEP, a European scout described Engelns as a 'rangy, second-ball-winning, space-attacking midfielder' who stands at 6ft 2in tall.

Four of his league appearances this season have been from the start and at 17 years and 7 months old, Engelns is currently the youngest player to be named in a starting lineup in the 2. Bundesliga this season.

"They are pretty surprising me, [they're] in a really good position, and obviously it's my home city," Farke said.

"My fingers are crossed for them as well," he added.

Paderborn are third in the table but joint on 28 points with league leaders SV Elversberg and second-place 1.FC Koln. Similar to the Championship, the top two in Germany's second tier are promoted automatically, however in lieu of a four-team play-off system, the team finishing third in 2. Bundesliga goes into a head-to-head play-off with the side finishing third-bottom in the top flight.

Paderborn host Karlsruher at midday on Saturday, three hours before Leeds host Oxford in the Championship.
