A round-up of all the key headlines involving Leeds United

Leeds United jumped back into the Championship’s automatic promotion places with a well-deserved 2-1 victory at home to Watford.

The Whites knew a victory by two goals would be enough to send them to the summit on goal difference, but despite early strikes from Largie Ramazani and Brenden Aaronson in the opening seven minutes, the Whites had to settle for a one goal triumph, with Watford showing improvements in the final 45 minutes after Kwado Baah’s early second half strike.

The victory was Leeds’ second in a row, following a crucial win over Sheffield United in last Friday’s Yorkshire-derby. It leaves Daniel Farke’s side unbeaten in six matches, which is an even greater achievement when bearing in mind the club’s recent injury crisis in midfield.

Farke has been working around the clock to bolster his squad depth in recent weeks, and after recent rumours linking the club with a move for Chieck Kouyate and Francis Coquelin, it now appears that the German has settled on a new solution in Josuha Guilavogui.

The seven-time France international, who has been without a club since leaving Mainz at the end of last season, is a tough-tackling defensive midfielder that can also cover at centre back when needed. He racked up over 150 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg and has also represented Atletico Madrid earlier in his career.

Guilavogui has been spotted in attendance at the last two Leeds matches in victories over Sheffield United and Watford, hinting that a transfer could be close.

Ex-Leeds United and Sunderland man leaves Newcastle after a month

Former Leeds United footballer Liam Bridcutt has decided to leave his role at Newcastle United’s coaching setup to take up the assistant manager’s role at Gateshead in the National League, according to reports from Shields Gazette.

Bridcutt, who also played in midfield for Sunderland and Brighton, had been working as Newcastle’s academy sessional coach throughout the summer, but his appointment was only confirmed last month.

He leaves St. James’ Park to link up with Carl Magnay at Gateshead after he was selected as the managerial replacement for former Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot after his appointment as Crawley Town boss in League One.
