The likes of Joel Piroe, Ilia Gruev, Glen Kamara, Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray have all remained mostly injury-free throughout the 2023/24 season, being selected in each of Daniel Farke’s matchday squads, for as long as they’ve been at the club. Others have not been so lucky, sustaining injuries or picking up suspensions that have kept them out for several matches at a time.
The YEP has investigated which players in particular have been out the longest as the entire squad has missed a cumulative 152 games to injury, suspension and other reasons for absence so far this season.
13. Pascal Struijk - Nine matches
It feels an age since Struijk last featured in a Leeds shirt but the Dutch defender has missed just nine league matches this term, all of which have been from the 28th December onwards.
14. Patrick Bamford - 10 matches
Bamford missed the early portion of the season and subsequently lost his place in the team but has won it back of late with a goalscoring start to the New Year.
15. Joe Gelhardt - 11 matches
Gelhardt has been a mixture of out of favour and unavailable for much of this season, missing an extended period with a fractured hand.
16. Djed Spence - 12 matches
No longer with the club, Spence's time at Elland Road will not be remembered as a success. He made his debut off the bench vs Sheff Wednesday but subsequently picked up a knee injury which kept him out for two months.
17. Jamie Shackleton - 14 matches
Shackleton has been in a similar boat to Gelhardt - out of favour and beleaguered by niggly injuries. He missed the visit to Swansea in midweek following the birth of his first child.
18. Junior Firpo - 17 matches
Firpo is the current incumbent at left-back and much like Bamford has played himself into form in 2024. Of the 32 league outings Leeds have had this season, Firpo missed 17 through injury.
