Whites captain Ethan Ampadu has offered his thoughts on his injury blow and his side’s recent progress.

Ethan Ampadu has hailed fresh Leeds United positives despite an honest injury admission ahead of tonight’s Championship showdown against Sheffield United.

Whites captain Ampadu damaged his lateral ligament in last month’s 3-0 win at home to Coventry City and the midfielder is now expected to be sidelined until the new year.

Writing in his captain’s column of Friday night’s matchday programme, Ampadu admitted the blow has left him frustrated ahead of an eagerly-awaited Yorkshire derby against the Blades.

Ampadu, though, says he is working hard on his recovery and highlighted fresh Leeds positives via his side’s displays in their last three games against Coventry, Norwich City and Sunderland.

Ampadu reasoned: “It goes without saying that I am frustrated to be out and missing tonight's game, after picking up and injury against Coventry in our last home game. That was a great win for us.

"As a team we were proud at how we performed in the next two games against Norwich and Sunderland. We were unfortunate not to pick up more points from those two games, but they are tough places to go and we can take a lot of positives from the way we played.

"Tonight, we face Sheffield United in a match that everyone will be looking forward to. It's under the lights and will be a tough match between two proud Yorkshire clubs, with lots of support behind them."It's one I would love to be out there for, but I am continuing to work hard on my recovery, so I'll be supporting the boys from the sidelines for now."
