A massive Leeds boost is expected amid a new main rival emergence.

Leeds United face a new 'toughest' test - but a huge Whites boost is expected for a significant Whites first.

Championship title favourites Leeds signed off for the October international break with a top-of-the-table clash at Sunderland for whom a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw kept them top on goal difference.

Sheffield United, though, are now rated Leeds' main rivals in the Championship promotion race by the bookmakers who now have Chris Wilder's second-placed side as clear second favourites for the title.

The two teams will lock horns in a mouth-watering clash at Elland Road tonight for which there is huge Leeds backing given the scale of the test. The Blades are the division's only remaining unbeaten team but the bookmakers expect the huge boost of a Whites victory, the oddsmakers having Leeds as odds-on across the board.

Daniel Farke's fifth-placed Whites are no bigger than 10-11 but as short as 17-20 to record a fifth league win of the new campaign which would lead to a season first of putting Leeds in the division's automatic promotion places for the first time.

A win of any kind would send Leeds second and a two-goal victory would see the Whites hit top spot ahead of the weekend's remaining games. A 1-0 success for the Whites is favourite in the correct score market at 6-1, narrowly ahead of a 1-1 draw at 13-2.

A 2-0 Leeds triumph is available at 15-2. In further evidence of the huge Leeds backing, the Blades can be backed at 10-3 to leave Elland Road with all three points and even the draw is available at 11-4.

Fresh from his recall to the starting line up against Sunderland, Whites striker Joel Piroe is clear favourite to score first at a best priced 23-4.

Despite sitting fifth and three points off the automatics, Leeds remain clear title favourites in being no bigger than 7-5 but as short as 11-10 with some firms. The Blades are 6s, just ahead of Middlesbrough at 15-2, Burnley at 8s and Sunderland at 9s.

There is then a gap to West Brom at 14s and an even bigger jump to Norwich City at 25s. In what is fast becoming seen as a six horse race, there is then a huge gap back to Blackburn Rovers at 80s.
