Leeds Combination League: Stalemate halts table toppers' victory run

Chapeltown Fforde Grene's one hundred per cent Jubilee Premier start to the campaign came to an end as they were held to a 2-2 stalemate at JB Celtic.

Daniel Sheriffe scored Fforde’s first with T’Nique Fishley coming off the bench to get their second on 80 minutes, while the home side’s Mattie Dalton and Richie Banks earned a draw for the home side.

Four goals from Steve Palfrey, meanwhile, helped HT Sports to a comfortable 6-0 win at Main Line Social, leaving HT still just two points behind leaders Hope Inn Whites.

The Whites, meanwhile, scored six goals of their own in an easy home win against rock-bottom Horsforth Fairweather.

Josh McClean’s brace and goals from Leon Walker, Lee Rooks, Kingsley Weatherald and Danny Maw sealed a 6-1 win.

A late goal from Daniel Marcinkowski could not help bottom Premier Division side Harehills WMC as Phil Smith scored a stunning bicycle kick for Kirkstall Crusaders in a crushing 6-1 home defeat for Harehills, who remain without a win this season.

Kippax Sundays remain top after a Richard Jackson hat-trick and an Aaron Gray goal earned a routine 4-1 win over Hunslet Parnaby.

Elsewhere, Chapeltown Fford Grene Reserves suffered the same fate as their first-team counterparts in a 2-2 draw with mid-table Colton.

Tesfa Walton and Andrew Richards got Fforde’s goals but efforts from Mikey O’Brien and Ben Clark left Fforde five points off the top, albeit with a game in hand.

Corpus Christi suffered their first Division Two loss of the season as Adam Prince’s second-half brace helped Halfway come from behind to win 2-1, after Johnathan Meredith had opened the scoring for the home side.

Acorn (Bramley) also became the latest side to beat FC West Leeds through goals from Josh Simpson, Mickie Fletcher, Matt Lofthouse, Graham Major and Peter Gitting, which sank point-less West Leeds 5-0.

Danny Alcock’s hat-trick made it seven wins from seven for Divison 3B leaders Woodcock at home to Black Lion, going 4-0 up inside thirteen minutes after David Farrell and Martin Roebuck added to Alcock’s early goals.

Ben Howarth also got on the scoresheet in a win that puts Woodcock four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Elsewhere, a lower-league six-pointer between Moortown Albion Reserves and Millshaw Park Rangers Reserves ended in a 5-1 demolition from home side Moortown, with a Stuart Talbot brace, along with Ross Hammill, Sean Morrell and Kyle Spargo goals making Jordan Smith’s a mere consolation for Millshaw.

There was cup action elsewhere with the LUTY second round seeing Commercial HQ edge past Hare and Hounds 3-2 away from home thanks to Chris Jones, Michael Hartley and Csongor Kelemen’s goals.

Halton and Bramley Town’s affair was much closer, however, as away side Bramley eased to a 5-1 win, while Pudsey Athletic also gained comfortable passage into the next round with Adam Cole’s brace helping them see off AFC Elfor 4-1.

Scott Carter’s hat-trick along with Dave Thorpe and Ben Leighton’s strikes bagged a third-round place for Millshaw Park Rangers in a 5-2 win at the expense of away side Oulton Athletic.

Two goals from South Seacroft’s Liam Sandford could not sink Horsforth, as Nielsen and Hall grabbed braces of their own in a 4-2 win.

Sporting Pudsey and Chapel Allerton’s match also ended 4-2 after Mark Freeman’s hat-trick made the difference for away side Allerton.

The second round of the Mawson Cup featured a 10-0 annihilation from New Moorside at home to the unfortunate Bramley Villagers.

Marcus Liburd scored four, while Jamie Halsall’s hat-trick, Stephen Lambert’s brace and a Matt Stanley goal completed the rout for Moorside.

Western Juniors secured a straightforward third-round place by beating Halfway House Bramley 5-0. AFC Travellers also scored five in a comfortable 5-1 win at Amaranth Athletic.

By contrast, the match between FC Armley and West Leeds Bramley saw Armley squeeze into the next round with a 3-2 win, whilst West Leeds Farnley saw off a dangerous Wortley Knights side 5-3, and FC Retailers beat Temple by the same scoreline.

East End Park WMC made it to the next round with Kieran Evans scoring a hat-trick in their 5-2 home win over Old Hall Town.

Bramley Town Reserves also ran out 5-2 winners against Northern Star.
