Guiseley looking to book their place in the FA Cup first round
The Lions have already eased through two FA Cup ties this season against seventh-tier sides Atherton Collieries and Matlock Town respectively, keeping clean sheets both times in routine 4-0 and 2-0 home wins.
However, they are set to face their biggest test yet in their quest to reach the first round with a tricky tie at the Broadhurst Park outfit.
Guiseley have started this season strongly – alongside their Cup run – they ran riot against Blyth Spartans on the opening day of the season with a 4-0 victory at Nethermoor but they fell victim to a 1-0 defeat at a strong Hereford side last time out, and will be looking to get back on track this afternoon.
The last competitive meeting between the two sides saw a crowd of over 1,700 present at Broadhurst Park which finished in a pulsating 3-3 draw in February 2019.
However, with FC United having dropped down a division since, Guiseley will be looking to go one better this time against their Lancastrian rivals.
Elsewhere in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup today, FC Halifax Town travel to South Shields.
Meanwhile, Harrogate Town could conceivably finish the weekend in top spot in Sky Bet League Two with victory at Colchester today – if other results go their way.
“I don’t want to start making big statements that we will be up there at the end of the season, that’s for sure,” said Town boss Simon Weaver.
“We really are just trying to dig in every game and see where the energy takes us.
“We’ve seen some remarks about us being organised and good from throw-ins, but the lads like being under-estimated and I’m not going to change that. A lot of people will probably think we’ll blow up or we’re just riding the crest of the wave at the minute.
“But hopefully we can sustain it and prove that we’ve got ability as well as energy and we can keep competing at the top end, which would be brilliant in our first year.”
