Antonsson’s transfer had been pending since he finalised personal terms at the start of last week but Leeds sealed his move this afternoon for a fee rising to around £2m.

The 25-year-old caught the eye with a prolific run for Kalmar this season, scoring 10 times in 12 games and establishing himself as the top scorer in Sweden’s highest division.

His contract at Elland Road includes the option of a fourth season.

Antonsson told www.leedsunited.com: “Ever since Leeds came into the picture, it seemed like the perfect choice. I wanted this move as soon as Leeds contacted me.

“Playing in England has been a big dream of mine. Coming to a big club like Leeds is a dream come true and I will work very hard for the team in every game. I will not miss this opportunity.”

Leeds were hindered by a shortage of goals last season and the club reduced their pool of strikers in early May by allowing Mirco Antenucci to move on at the end of his contract.

New head coach Garry Monk said: “In terms of how he plays, Marcus is a different striker to what we’ve got already, so that gives us options up front.

“The club has watched a lot of him, I’ve watched a lot of him and I felt he’d be a good fit for Leeds United.”
