Looking after the whole student
The wellbeing of students is a pillar central to school life. Year and pastoral leaders meet students in year 7 and stay with them throughout their 5 years of main school, so they really get to know each other well.
“We believe that education is so much more than the core formal curriculum and whilst we focus on giving our students the very best possible education whilst they are with us for 7 years (into Sixth Form), we also put a great deal of work and commitment into offering a variety of additional experiences and activities to enhance their learning and to ensure they really enjoy their time at the school,” said Mr Parkinson.
Education
All subjects are taught by specialists with a passion for their chosen subject.
Wider curriculum
The school has some of the most extensive grounds in the county; over 70 acres which include multiple sports fields, tennis courts, astroturf pitches, basketball courts and woods for exploring and orienteering.
Sport and the arts play a strong part in the co-curriculum offer, with ever-expanding opportunities to continue sport, music and drama outside the classroom with activities and clubs.
Headteacher Mr Andrew Parkinson said: “During their years with us we want to support each individual to further develop their confidence, ambition and motivation so they can achieve fulfilment in their current and future lives. As such, our curriculum offer is broad, balanced and strengthened through an enviable range of co-curricular activities. We always encourage our students to immerse themselves in the full life of the school. We all have individual talents and the school experience is designed to find and nurture these, whatever they may be.”
Sixth Form
The Sixth Form at Tadcaster Grammar School is a special place.
“We want all our students to feel cared for, and be known as individuals. We help them develop personally and academically, into mature, well-rounded young people equipped for current challenges and the ones that lie ahead,” said Mr Parkinson.
Mrs Knapton, Director of Sixth FormThe Sixth Form at Tadcaster Grammar School is a close-knit and supportive environment. We get to know each student as an individual, including their interests, aspirations, strengths and areas for development. With a dedicated pastoral leader we can work alongside students to provide practical support and any additional help students may need.
