It was the month two golden Olympians went head to head. Matthew Pinsent and Steve Redgrave were in Leeds racing each other on rowing machines. The caption in the YEP archive reveals no more information but the photo stands out for the raw emotion on the faces of the two Olympic heroes. This was Leeds in September 1996 and the image is one of 16 showcasing a month of memories around the city. Stories making the news headlines throughout the 30 days are featured as well as memories from the city centre and the suburbs with Lawnswood, Ilkley, Temple Newsam, Beeston and Meanwood all featured.
