"Neon lime green ice cream float in Lewis's cafe (in the basement?). Fond memories. 1973... Seeing Queen supporting Mott the Hoople in Leeds Town Hall. And Bowie as Ziggy Stardust in the old Rollarena on Kirkstall Road. Oh, the Rollarena! We could dance backwards on 4 wheel skates in those days. Such fun" - Wendy Dungavel. | YPN Photo: YPN

"Lived at my grandma`s round Blenheim area when very young. Played with other kids with the molten tarmac on the road in summer and I remember bank holidays when the sun actually came out and the black soot blew away for a bit. I only remember one vehicle that was owned by the man in the corner shop (that seemed to sell everything) up the road" - Roy Holland. | Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net

"We were the lucky ones living on a big council estate on the edge of countryside. We played out all day long. Took picnics to Adel woods, all the kids had the same food, sugar sandwiches. We took water in a washed out milk bottle that secured at the top with grease proof paper and an elastic band. We built rope swings across the beck. If you fell in, your clothes would have dried out before you got home. We built dens made from chopped down bushes. We “borrowed” turnips in the autumn from the farmers barns. After the boys peeled them with their penknives we ate them. Happy times in the fifties/early sixties" - Anne Lathey. | YPN Photo: YPN

"I remember growing up in Burley/Hyde park , leaving the house at 8am in the morning and my mum shouting my name at 5pm for dinner then not being seen again until the street lamps came on!
