Looking west along The Headrow. The Odeon Cinema can be seen before the junction with New Briggate; a licensed restaurant on the first floor is advertised. Lewis's store is behind this. The tallest building on the left hand side is the Schofield's department store built in 1962. A van bearing the name 'Almonds' is parked on the road. | Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net

A coloured postcard of Briggate looking south, dating from around the early 1960s given the absence of tramlines (trams last ran in Leeds at the end of the 1950s), but the Empire Theatre, demolished in 1962, is still there on the left. Also on the left are the entrance to the County Arcade and Willerby's Tailors. On the right are Boots Chemists and Phillips Furnishing Stores Ltd. with the Queens Arcade in between. Both sides of the street are crowded with people while a bus and several cars are seen on the road. | Artemis, Leeds City Council Photo: Artemis, Leeds City Council
