The little girl pictured perched on the window sill enjoying an ice lolly is Vanessa Sharp, pictured circa April 1965. She was photographed outside New Farnley Post Office and General Store on Low Moor Side Lane, when at that time the proprietor was Ronnie Murgatroyd. The building, built in coursed gritstone, dates from the late 18th century and is believed to have originally been part of a farm. It is now Grade II listed along with the others in the row. New Farnley Post Office is nowadays housed in a new building at Low Moor Side. The photo is one of 12 celebrating life around the community during the decade. The images are a mix from the YEP archive and West Yorkshire Archive Service as well as others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
