The photos turn back the clock to 1904 and put the spotlight on the heart of the city. It proved to be a newsy 12 months. The new St Anne’s Cathedral opened, Leeds University established and Dr Laura Veale became the first female doctor appointed in the city. The somewhat eerie photos chart the changes and also feature a range of faces caught on camera. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
