It was a decade of dereliction lived, in large part, against the backdrop of the Second World War. These fascinating photos turn the spotlight on Holbeck in the 1940s. They bring together memories of social clubs and factories, many of which were closed and in a state of dereliction. Street scenes with back to back houses in the heart of the community are also in focus. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
