Strong winds are expected in Leeds this weekend.

The Met Office weather alert system has been working overtime lately, as yet another yellow warning has been issued across large parts of the north of England.

Coming into effect at 7am on Saturday (December 21), the weather service warns of a period of strong winds which is likely to lead to "some transport disruption". It remains in place until midnight.

The warning reads: "Strong westerly winds are expected to develop through the course of Saturday, with gusts of 50-60mph developing quite widely across this region, and a small chance of gusts reaching 70mph around some coasts and high ground areas.

"This has the potential to cause delays to public transport and some disruption to the road network, which may have a greater than usual impact given the busier pre-Christmas weekend travel. Dangerous coastal conditions can be expected too, with large waves an additional hazard."

According to the Met Office weather forecast, Leeds is expected to see a relatively sunny day on Saturday with light rain showers and temperatures between six and 10C, although the strong wind is likely to make it feel a lot colder.
