Lotherton Hall to close for weekend as Storm Boelo to bring 65mph high winds to Leeds

Widespread gusts of 55mph to 65mph are expected

Lotherton Hall has announced its closure for the weekend as Leeds braces itself for Storm Boelo.

A yellow weather warning for severe wind has been put in place across Leeds and West Yorkshire from 12pm on Saturday (October 24) through to 9pm on Sunday (October 25).

Forecasters warn that strong southerly winds will sweep across northern England alongside persistent heavy downpours on Saturday afternoon, shifting to even stronger westerly gales overnight into Sunday.

Taking to Facebook, Lotherton confirmed that as a result they have taken the decision to close for the duration of both days.

“We have taken advice and guidance from various agencies, as well as Leeds City Council internal departments, to assess whether we can open safely,” the post said.

“With strong winds forecast and gusts expected to exceed 55mph throughout the weekend, we have made the difficult decision to close for the safety of our visitors and staff, which is our priority.

“With the start of our new Halloween events, we understand this will be disappointing news, and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.”

Guest are invited to rebook for another day with Spellbound, the Pumpkin Patch and Once Upon A Nightmare set to be running as normal from Monday.

Widespread gusts of 55mph to 65mph are expected across West Yorkshire, with exposed higher ground nearby potentially seeing gusts approaching 70mph.

The Met Office has warned residents to prepare for potential disruption across the region. Travel services across road, rail, and air could face widespread delays, with speed restrictions likely on train routes, potential closures on major roads, and restrictions for high-sided vehicles on exposed bridges.
