Leeds told when warm spell will end with ‘frost’ set to arrive in Met Office forecast

After hitting 20 degrees today, the weather is set to take a turn for the cold again.

The Met Office is predicting Leeds will bask in the hottest day of the year so far on Wednesday (April 8). However, the warm spell is not expected to last long, according to the forecasters.

The city is set to be warmer than major destinations like Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and Napoli. See the full list.

Forecasters have predicted exactly when it will be hottest today. The Met Office has issued its hour-by-hour forecast here.

Unfortunately, the warm spell will give way to cooler weather from tomorrow (April 9). It could fall by as much as 10C in parts of the country, forecasters have said.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Met Office forecast adds: “Cold start Friday, with some frost, then sunny intervals. Rain and stronger winds overnight, with further outbreaks of rain Saturday.

“Sunshine and showers Sunday. Temperatures near normal for April.”

Further into April, the forecaster is predicting: “It will likely remain rather changeable during the first part of this period with showers or occasional longer spells of rain affecting many areas.

“Whether this takes the form of successive weather systems pushing in from the Atlantic or a more slowly evolving weather pattern remains rather unclear. There may also be some drier and brighter interludes and when winds are light, it should feel quite warm, despite temperatures most likely being close to normal for most.

“Later in the month more blocked weather patterns become more likely, with high pressure in the vicinity of the UK. This increases the probability of more settled weather, especially in the north but there may still be periods of rain or showers, especially in the south.”

The Met Office’s chief forecaster Paul Gundersen said: “We’re seeing a brief but notable spell of very warm weather for early April, with temperatures more typically associated with late spring or early summer.

“This could be the warmest spell at this point in April since 2020, a year many will remember because of the Covid‑19 lockdown.

“However, this warmth will be short-lived, with a marked drop in temperatures and more unsettled conditions developing later this week.

“In some areas, daytime temperatures could fall by around 10C between Wednesday and Thursday.”
