Leeds bin collections cancelled due to heavy snow and severe weather conditions

Leeds City Council has said it will be cancelling bin collections today as the heavy snow has created unsafe driving and walking conditions on many residential streets.

Residents who miss their bin collection today are being told to put their bins out for a planned collection on Sunday.

Refuse crews will try to collect as many of the remaining bins as possible.

All Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) have also been closed early today and those who had booked a slot today are being advised to rebook.

Leeds Council will "work throughout the day to ensure that primary routes in the city and areas around key facilities such as vaccination centres continue to be gritted".

A statement from the Council said: "Due to heavy snow creating unsafe driving and walking conditions on many residential streets, and with the forecast for further heavy snowfall, refuse collections have been stood down for the remainder of today.

"Those residents who didn’t get their bins emptied today are advised to put their bins out again for a planned Sunday collection, when crews will try to collect as many missed bins as possible.

"Also closing early today are all Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). Residents with a slot booked today are advised to please rebook. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but the decision has been made in the interests of customer and staff safety and also following Police travel advice.

"Leeds City Council staff will be continuing to work throughout the day to ensure that primary routes in the city and areas around key facilities such as vaccination centres continue to be gritted.
