Heavy fog and extreme weather in Yorkshire sparks police warning to drivers

Police are warning drivers to take care because of heavy fog on motorways today (Monday)

There are thick patches of fog on the M62 between Junctions 24 and 22, but officers are saying that motorists are still driving too quickly for the conditions.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Despite thick fog patches M62 J24-22, some motorists are driving at inappropriate speeds for the conditions - 70mph is a limit and not a target.

"Please adjust your speed according to the conditions, and make sure you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear #roadsafety"

It comes as forecasters predict a spell of bad weather including thunder and possibly snow.

here is a chance of snow this week due to the frosty conditions.

The Met Office said: "From Tuesday, there will be light winds and occasionally heavy showers along coastal parts, these perhaps wintry inland.

"Some sunny spells will develop later.

"Frosty and icy overnight, with a risk of freezing fog patches.

"The outlook from Wednesday, is largely dry but cold.

"A chance of showers or rain at times, these turning to sleet or snow inland.

“Frost and ice likely each night, with patches of freezing fog.”
