The event was due to take place this weekend at the Woodlands Farm rehoming centre, on York Road, with raffles and tombolas as well as festive refreshments.

The field used for the event, along with the temporary car park, are both waterlogged making them unsafe to use.

Sarah Hey, Dogs Trust Leeds' supporter relations officer and organiser of the event, said: “Unfortunately we have had to take the decision to cancel the Santa Paws Weekend due to concerns relating to the waterlogged car parking areas.

"We would like to thank everyone who was intending to come along for their support and hope to see you at other events in 2020.”

Leeds is set to be hit by flooding this week and the Met Office issued an urgent weather warning for Wednesday.
