Organisers announced in May that the annual festival would not go ahead as normal this year, as they are “reassess” the event.

But a one-night Long Division Gap Year show, featuring live music and arts events in Wakefield, is running on Saturday in its place.

Festival organisers have teamed up with Wakefield Arts Partnership and Come Play With Me to host the event at St Austin’s Theatre in the city.

Dean Freeman, Long Division organiser, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Long Division had ran for six years and to be honest I hadn’t stopped to think - 2016 was really good but I felt I needed a break for a year to reassess.

“The Gap Year is a one-off evening show on the weekend which would have been Long Division, because we have some great loyal fans.

“It’s kind of a celebration of independent music and DIY culture.”

Bands to play during the evening this weekend include Castleford act Allusondrugs and Dark Horse.

There will also be an exclusive screening of a film that was shot during last year’s Long Division festival.

Mr Freeman said he wanted people to share their views on what the next Long Division festival should be.

“The Gap Year show is saying ‘we’ve not disappeared and we want to keep going’,” he said.

“I think Long Division will be back next year but it will become something quite different.”

The event at St Austin’s Theatre starts from 7.30pm.

Limited tickets are still available.
