UPDATE: Police renew appeal after Batley shooting

Police have renewed their appeal for information after a man was shot in Batley town centre.

A 23-year-old man was found by police who were called to the forecourt of the BP petrol station in Bradford Road at 10.25pm on Monday.

He had suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital with injuries life-threatening injuries.

A 19-year-old man was arrested but released without charge and eliminated from enquiries.

The suspect is described as a lone mixed-race male, aged in his late 20s to early 30s and approximatley 6ft tall.

Det Chief Insp Mark McManus, said: “I would continue to appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident to come forward, either via 101, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111”

He had said earlier that he wanted to reassure residents that this appears to be an isolated incident and that increased neighbourhood policing patrols would be in the area to reassure the local community.
