Meet the new ‘Pet Champions’ making train travel across Yorkshire easier for pets and their owners
Meet the new ‘Pet Champions’ helping four-legged passengers and their owners travel more easily on trains 🐾
Rail operator LNER has launched a new initiative appointing 'Pet Champions' at key stations to provide dedicated support for customers travelling with their furry friends.
The new 'Pet Champions' will be on hand to assist passengers and their pets at stations including Wakefield and York.
These dedicated staff members will offer guidance on pet-friendly facilities, recommend optimal travel times and services, and advise on suitable coaches for journeys.
Further expansion of the 'Pet Champion' programme and the installation of refreshed pet water stations are anticipated across LNER-managed stations in the coming months.
The rail operator’s policy permits customers to travel with up to two dogs (on leads), cats, or other small domestic animals free of charge.

Onboard, pet owners are reminded to ensure animals do not occupy seats or tables, and any carry cases must be kept clear of aisles.
Colette Casey, customer experience director at LNER, said: "At LNER, we know how important pets are for their owners, so this National Dog Day we are delighted to have appointed our first 'Pet Champions' across our route.
“Animal lovers themselves, our champions will make sure your companions are looked after at our stations.
“We're also taking this opportunity to remind our customers of our top tips when travelling with pets to help everyone have a safe and pleasant journey.”
Natalie Silvester, travel consultant and LNER Pet Champion, said: "When the opportunity to become an LNER Pet Champion arose, I jumped at the chance to be part of an initiative that showcased the support LNER offers for pets and their owners.
“The travel centre at York Railway Station has always been a place that is dog-friendly, where the team make sure that all dogs (and their owners) receive the very best in customer service.”
