The Leeds transport scene is continually changing and while 2025 saw a host of landmark moments, including the opening of Leeds Bradford Airport’s new terminal, 2026 is expected to be just as big.
Chief among a host of changes due this year is the completion of the revamped entrance of Leeds City Station, plus a host of roadworks designed at improving safety and reducing casualty rates among the city’s motorists.
Here are 12 major transport projects that will change Leeds in 2026...
7. Construction of White Rose station
Originally due to open in 2024, construction of the highly-anticipated £26.5 million White Rose Railway Station remains on indefinite hiatus with no restart date currently in site following repeated delays. Despite the station being assessed as approximately 70 per cent complete, work was halted after the entirety of its initial budget was used. Talks are ongoing to develop a preferred approach to remobilise the project in 2026. | James Hardisty

8. Dawsons Corner revamp
Due to be completed in early 2027, work will continue in 2026 on the 44.1 million revamp of the Dawsons Corner roundabout and Stanningley Bypass. The planned changes aim to untangle one of the Leeds's most congested junctions, by reducing congestion and delays, helping to support economic growth across Leeds and Bradford. | LCC

9. Mass transit system consultation
Despite the announcement that plans to build a mass transit tram system in West Yorkshire has been delayed by several years to the late 2030s, consultation work on phase one of the scheme, and a confirmation of the preferred routes, including one connecting St James's Hospital to White Rose Centre, are expected to be announced in 2026. | WYCA

10. Leeds station platform 17 extension
Design and delivery of plans to improve access to platforms 16 and 17 at Leeds station are expected to move forward in 2026, following a public consultation. Proposals include increasing the length and width of platform 17 and moving the lift, stairs and escalators to a central position on platform 16.
