These Leeds pub toilets are no loo-sers

The drinking spots are all owned by national pub chain Wetherspoons and were each given a platinum star rating by Loo of the Year inspectors.

Two city centre venues, the Hedley Verity on Woodhouse Lane and the Cuthbert Brodrick on Portland Crescent, passed muster after the unannounced spot checks of their toilet facilities. Also impressing judges were the Old Unicorn in Bramley, the Picture House in Morley, the Crossed Shuttle in Pudsey, the Clothiers Arms in Yeadon and the Bowling Green in Otley.

The scheme aims to highlight good quality public conveniences available in restaurants, bars, shops and other hospitality venues.

Hundreds of WCs are visited by the inspection team each year and graded from bronze to gold.

Unacceptable toilets do not receive a rating.

A platinum grade is only awarded to venues with ‘exceptional’ loos based on criteria such as decor, maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, 
equipment and overall management.

The Picture House manager Jonathan Pierce said: “I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in a first-class conditional at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

Mike Bone from Loo of the Year added:

“The toilets at each of the pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well-maintained.”
