These historic Morley shopfronts dating back to 19th century will be restored

Historic shopfronts will be restored after plans for a heritage project were agreed with the council.

Morley Conservative Club sought planning permission for repair works and alterations on Chapel Hill.

Re-roofing will be carried out at the 19th century site, part of Morley Conservation Area, after Leeds City Council granted planning permission.

A planning report said new awnings would be installed and historic shop names could be revealed as part of the project.

The report said: “The historic fabric would be repaired with decorative features repaired and replaced with matching materials where appropriate.

“The proposal would sensitively repair, update and enhance the shopfront to appear as a traditional design within Morley Conservation Area.”

A design report said archive photographs of the site were used to draw up the designs.

Inappropriate modern alterations would be removed as part of the project, which includes the installation of new security gates and shutters.
