Searches of River Aire to remain ongoing after potential body sighting near Main Street in Allerton Bywater area of Leeds

Specialist police divers will continue to search the River Aire after a member of the public reported seeing a potential body.

Police received the report yesterday (November 1) and a full search of the river down into the Castleford area was conducted. The potential body was described as being an adult, possibly male, and wearing a green top.

Emergency services were called to Main Street in Allerton Bywater at 9am on November 1. Police, fire and ambulance services all attended and a National Police Air Service helicopter also assisted with the search. Nothing was discovered but police have confirmed searches will remain ongoing.

DI Ryan Malyk of Leeds CID, said: “Extensive searches have been conducted in the River Aire both in Allerton Bywater and Castleford including the deployment of a fire service boat and police helicopter. Nothing has been discovered but we will be continuing searches with specialist police divers. I would ask anyone who saw a person in the river or has any information which could assist our enquiries to contact us.”
