Leeds City Council awards £2m bin collection contract as new trucks to replace 'increasingly unreliable' fleet
New garbage trucks are set to boost bin collections in Leeds after a £2m contract was awarded.
Ageing lorries will be replaced with eight new vehicles after Leeds City Council agreed to spend the cash.
A 12-month contract has been awarded to waste management firm FAUN Zoeller UK.

A council report said: “The vehicles are to replace older vehicles, which are becoming increasingly unreliable, with considerable maintenance requirements and costs.”
A tender received from the company said each vehicle would cost £260,000, the report said.
It was estimated replacing the current vehicles would take up to six months.
The new trucks would be more carbon efficient as part of the council’s net-zero ambitions.
The report said the new vehicles would help with the management of household waste, recycling and keeping neighbourhoods clean.
It said: “Replacing the vehicles will allow the environmental services refuse collection team to renew the ageing vehicles and continue the service with greater efficiency.”
