This year St George's Crypt in Leeds is still offering a full Christmas dinner 'with all the trimmings', despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Indeed, with Christmas bubbles being cancelled and replaced with single-day mixing on Christmas Day, and Tier 4 being introduced for London and the south east, it may be the case that some families who were planning to come together won't see one another after all.

St George's Crypt in Great George Street in Leeds city centre is offering Christmas dinner for walk-in service users.

A spokesman said: "This year, we will still provide a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings to our residents, and for our walk-in service users, dinner will be served upstairs in the church where we have enough space to be able to adhere to social distancing rule."

St George's Crypt has 72 bed spaces, 365 days a year, with emergency bedrooms.

It also offers people support in getting fed, cleaned up and clothed.

A spokesman added: "We are a charity from Leeds, UK and offer care, compassion and hope to the homeless, the vulnerable and those suffering from addiction. 365 days a year. Please donate this Christmas.

We aim: "To meet the basic needs of everyone in a safe, non-judgmental and caring environment.

"To support people who are living on the stree­ts into finding accommodation.

"To help people gain skills and confidence so that they can take an active role in their futures.

"To be good stewards of all that we receive in an open and transparent manner.

"To enable people to make positive choices in their lifestyle by accessing employment and freedom from addiction.

"To engage with local communities by identifying opportunities to share the Crypt’s resources.
