Leeds tarot reader gives rescue dogs a paw-sitive future

A Leeds tarot reader is putting a canine twist on tarot to raise money for rescue dogs

Leeds-based tarot reader Danielle Hardgrave offers readings for people and their four-legged friends, with 100% of the proceeds going to Good Life Dog Rescue, where she adopted her dog Stevie.

While human readings explore feelings and anxieties, her canine sessions focus on the things dogs love most.

Danielle told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “The dog readings are not so much about your inner mind traps and the anxieties that keep you awake, it’s more about what dogs are into, love, biscuits and chicken, in Stevie’s case.”

Stevie was the first dog Danielle ever gave a tarot reading to, and quickly became the inspiration behind the project.

“She was so much fun to film with and we fell in love with her,” she said.

She usually lets the dogs pick their own cards and now has a dedicated set of dog tarot cards, which she took to DogFest in 2026.

Danielle began offering readings after discovering a talent for tarot, with a friend’s suggestion to take them to TikTok sparking the idea to turn her interest into something that could benefit the rescue.

“I thought, why don’t I do this online? It’s a way for me to support them more than I already am,” she said.

Since then, she has held readings online and at fairs, with the project continuing to grow.

For Danielle, tarot is about more than predicting the future. She believes readings can help people reflect on their feelings and better understand themselves.

She told the YEP: “I think every person can get something different from it.

“It gets you to look inside yourself and helps you to process some of your own internal feelings.”

This year marks Danielle’s first spooky season as a professional tarot reader, and she said interest in all things witchy tends to increase around Halloween.

She has also noticed a wider interest in witchcraft, particularly among women, with more people exploring tarot, spells and rituals.

“It’s a good time to be a tarot reader,” she said.

And whether the cards are being picked by a person or a pup, Danielle hopes each reading can make a difference to the rescue dogs she supports.
