Chelsey Oates, 30, from South Kirkby, died earlier this week following a short illness, leaving behind five children, all under the age of six.

In a heartbreaking show of support, family, friends, local businesses and residents have come together to help the children following the loss of their mum, with a GoFundMe appeal raising more than £8,000 so far.

Fundraising events to celebrate her life are being held the Little 'Un pub in South Elmsall from 12pm on Friday (October 30) with a balloon release planned at 4.30pm.

Her Family said in a statement: "Chelsey had been unwell for a short time before her passing, making the news of her sudden death all the more devastating.

"The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving family, friends and neighbours struggling to come to terms with the loss of a woman who still had so much life ahead of her.

"Chelsey was a much-loved daughter, step-daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, cousin and friend. Chelsey meant so much to so many people.

"But above all else, her proudest and most important role in life was being a mum to her five beautiful children, who were the centre of her universe.

"She had a life that wasn’t always easy, but a spirit that refused to stay down.

"She experienced her fair share of turbulence throughout her life, but she was never one to remain down for long.

"Chelsey was full of strength and resilience and was the most selfless person. Truly one in a million and could never be replaced.

"Above all, Chelsey devoted her life to her five children. Being their mum was at the heart of everything she was, and her love for them will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

"Family, friends, local businesses and the wider community have rallied together to support Chelsey’s five children and help ease some of the financial pressures they now face as they navigate life without their mum.

"While no amount of money, generosity or fundraising could ever bring Chelsey back, those closest to her appreciate that the support being offered will help lift some of the burden they will face.

"The generosity shown so far has been breath-taking with support from the community and local businesses.

"We can’t thank everyone enough and this just demonstrates how losing Chelsey has affected the community and how much people want to make a difference to the lives of her children."
