The government plans to remove all legal limits on social contact by 21 June.

So, what is the date of the music festivals, who is headlining - and how can you get tickets?

Here is everything you need to know.

Are Reading and Leeds festivals going ahead?

Music fans were unsure whether any festivals would go ahead this year, after Europe’s largest live music event, Glastonbury, was cancelled for the second year running.

But posting on Reading and Leeds festivals’ official Twitter page, organisers confirmed what revellers had been waiting to hear.

They simply wrote: "Following the government's recent announcement, we can't wait to get back to the fields this summer. LET'S GO."

The Tweet was shared alongside a short video depicting festival-goers at the events in previous years, including clips of large crowds dancing to music.

Festival bosses are still to confirm detailed plans for the two events, including whether there will be Covid-secure measures, like social distancing, in place.

The festivals last took place in 2019, with over 100,000 people attending the Reading site each day.

Due to strict coronavirus restrictions, the music events were unable to take place last year.

Under the government’s roadmap, outdoor large performances with a maximum of 4,000 people will be permitted from 17 May.

And ministers plan to lift social distancing measures from 21 June, dependent on coronavirus cases, deaths and hospital admissions continuing to fall.

Other festivals which would normally take place ahead of 21 June, including Isle of Wight and Download, are yet to confirm whether they will run this year.

How can I get tickets?

While the festivals have only just been given the go-ahead, tickets have been on sale since last summer.
