And the Wakefield singer has promised to honour Dolly Parton’s memory at her Leeds Arena date next month
West Yorkshire songstress Jane McDonald has paid an emotional tribute to Dolly Parton following the death of the country music icon.
Jane, who hails from Wakefield, said she was “deeply saddened” by the loss of the star, describing her as an “absolute icon” and “remarkable soul” who had inspired countless people.
And the singer revealed she will honour Dolly’s memory by performing some of her timeless songs when she takes to the stage at Leeds Arena next month.
News of Dolly Parton’s death was announced by her family on Tuesday, and her publicist Marcel Pariseau said: “After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Centre surrounded by loved ones.”

The country music singer gave her final interview to People magazine, published on August 21, where she discussed her recent health difficulties.
The star said she had not paid close attention to her health while she was caring for her late husband Carl Dean, who died in March 2025 aged 82.
Wakefield singer, songwriter and television personality Jane McDonald posted on Instagram last night: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of the incomparable Dolly Parton.
“Dolly will always be an absolute icon, a compassionate advocate and a remarkable soul who meant the world to me and countless others.”
Jane, who shot to fame following her appearance on the BBC One show The Cruise in 1998, is set to play at Leeds Arena next month.
And she told fans she is going to honour the country sensation as part of her latest tour.
She added: “I carried her inspiration close to my heart and was already preparing to honour her by performing some of her timeless music on my next tour.
“Now, these performances will feel more meaningful than ever and will be my humble way of saying thank you to a woman who inspired so many.
“Her voice and her kindness will live on through generations. May she rest in peace.”
In May, Dolly Parton pulled out of a highly anticipated Las Vegas residency, which was due to begin in September.
She had earlier postponed her six-date run at The Colosseum Theatre at Caesars Palace from December 2025 to deal with “health challenges”.
Flags will be lowered throughout America in Dolly Parton’s honour, US President Donald Trump announced, posting on Truth Social “there has never been anyone like her”.
At Dolly Parton’s request, a small, private funeral service will be held for immediate family, a statement from her family on social media said.
